MEET KASEY WILLSON:
I was lucky enough to meet Kasey a few years ago and was immediately struck by her inner and outer beauty. As a highly regarded Naturopath & Nutritionist, Kasey lives and breathes the healthy practices she promotes, and it shows. We have talked health and beauty over many cups of tea and she is a wealth of knowledge so I’m excited to share with you her beauty secrets!
How do you define natural beauty?
Natural beauty to me involves embracing your body in its natural self and living naturally to support it.
- Eating local, organic, wholefoods. Knowing where the food is coming from (growing yourself or sourcing from local farmers markets).
- Using products that you know the ingredients of… that came from nature, not produced in a lab.
- Being kind to yourself by fuelling your body with positive thoughts, and allowing you the time to heal overnight with adequate sleep.
- Living to nourish and nurture your body.
When do you feel most beautiful?
After I take an Epsom Salt bath while enjoying a cup of herbal tea 🙂
When I nourish my body from the inside-out with nutritious foods and supplements, and the outside- in with practises like dry body brushing, Epsom salt baths, natural beauty products (or foods like coconut oil), I feel relaxed, content, confident and yes, beautiful. I’m in control of my health and beauty and I love that!
How do you balance a glamorous and healthy lifestyle?
I run a busy Naturopath clinic and I also love to be involved in health events around Adelaide. I do however live an hour from the city, so this does mean some long days and travel hours.
I balance this out with taking 2 days a week where I completely shut off from work commitments and focus on relaxation and fun. I also have a day a week offering online consultations, so I am able to work from home and another day at home to support my online projects, such as blogging, interviews and creating online projects like the Vibrant Woman Challenge.
My downtime includes pottering in my herb and veggie patch, cooking up tasty and nutritious meals in my kitchen, hot yoga, beach walks, HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) sessions on my back lawn, and spending time with family and friends over nourishing home cooked meals, or at organic cafes. All of these things make me feel good about myself, and are beneficial for my adrenal health.
The adrenal glands are the stress glands in the body, so a lifestyle full of ‘go, go, go’ can place great pressure on these vulnerable glands and lead to more serious hormone and health conditions. As adrenal fatigue is something I have experienced in the past (when I hit the party girl scene), I now place great importance on nurturing practises such as sleep, meditation, yoga, deep breathing, Epsom salt baths and massage.
Who is your beauty icon?
I’ve always loved Gwyneth Paltrow as an actress. I have an even greater appreciation for her dedication to organic living and work to promote nutritious eating and nourishing lifestyles. As far as Gwyneth is concerned, beauty starts from within.
Do you have a favourite natural skincare ingredient, product or ritual that you can share?
As a Naturopath & Nutritionist, I promote a nutritious diet, to encourage healthy skin. Among these crucial nutrients for healthy skin are your essential fats- Omega 3 and 6. As a typical Westernised diet is very high in Omega 6’,s through the staple consumption of grain products, more emphasis is needed on Omega 3’s (they should be in a 1:1 ratio in your diet).
Fish, like wild caught Salmon, Sardines and Mackerol are clean sources of Omega 3’s, as is cod liver oil, green leafys, walnuts and pumpkin seeds. A favourite amongst the Omega 3 rich seeds is the humble Chia. If you add 1-2 tbsp Chia Seeds into your daily diet, you are helping to supply Omega 3’s for healthy skin, among helping as an anti-inflammatory for the body and supporting cardiovascular and brain health.
Adding Chia Seeds to smoothies, in a Chia seed pudding recipe, or soaked in your morning nut and seed muesli are yummy ways you can enjoy the nutritious benefits of Omega 3’s, for your skin.
